The executive suite is becoming less and less of a male domain. According to the evaluation of a study of the Deutsches Institut für Wirtschaftsforschung (DIW), men still occupy most of the positions in management by a wide margin. Nonetheless, we can see that women are making efforts to correct this ratio.
„If this trend is only progressing slowly, it can be clearly seen that the number of women in management positions is increasing more rapidly than that of men,“ according to Karl Brenke in a press release of the DIW of 10.11.2010. The labour market expert reckons with a continuation of this trend. „Younger women in particular are moving up to management positions. This is a strong indication that the number of women in management positions will continue to increase.“
The rule of thumb is as follows: The bigger the company, the more it is dominated by men. Women are on the way up in small companies in particular. Among freelancers women make up just a third of the total number.
